UPDATE- 2012 PEI Bluefin Tuna reallocation
The reallocation draw is now complete and the list is being sent to Department of Fisheries & Oceans to confirm eligibility. Those selected through the draw to participate in the 2012 reallocation will be notified by early Monday next week. The number of fishers being issued conditions for the reallocation is not yet known as the main 2012 PEI tuna fishery does not end until Sept 30th.
Colin MacIsaac, DFO, noted this evening that the reallocation portion of the PEI tuna fishery will open at 5AM on Weds, October 3rd, 2012. New conditions & new tags will be issued by DFO on Monday and Tuesday of next week. He also clarified that a tag will give that fisher access to the 2012 reallocation fishery however, when the PEI quota is nearing completion, DFO will be issuing a variation order to close the fishery. Thus, a tag would give access to the fishery and not necessairly a garantee at a fish.
The PEIFA will be posting, to this website, the reallocation draw winners as soon as DFO confirms eligibility.
